Delegated Voting for ASR

Delegated Voting for ASR

Proposal: Allow $JUP stakers to delegate a secondary wallet to vote on their behalf for a set period. This can be a friend or relative.

Why is this needed?

:green_circle:People take vacations & miss votes
:green_circle:Life happens, and missing votes shouldn mean missing ASR.
:green_circle:Most votes are only open for a few days
:green_circle: short window makes it easy to miss.
:green_circle:Promotes a healthy balance between crypto & life
:green_circle:Ensuring participation without sacrificing personal time.

How it works:

:yellow_circle:Users can delegate a trusted wallet to vote on their behalf for a specific duration.

:yellow_circle:This delegation ensures continuous governance participation and ASR eligibility even if the original voter is unavailable.

:yellow_circle:Once the set period ends, voting control returns to the original wallet.

Benefits:

:purple_circle:Increases voter participation

:purple_circle:Strengthens Jupiter governance

:purple_circle:Ensures ASR rewards arent lost due to inactivity

This system would improve governance efficiency and support active participation while giving stakers flexibility.

Would you support this?

I missed quite a few votes because of the four days time you have to vote. Lol actually thought I voted on some I was to late on. Only figured it out much later it was already closed. But to be honest don’t know if delegating wallets is worth it as everyone has a phone these days. Maybe am missing something.

This option certainly improves overall governance efficiency and increases the voting percentage as well.

very good idea for people like me ( i don’t bring my ledger while in vacation, a secondary wallet to delegate would be great but whitout the ability to unstake in case of a drain)

It’s nice initiative but what if the wallet action doesn’t representing your on view or opinions regarding particular vote.

Thanks for proposing this, I understand the need for flexibility when it comes to trying to make sure to not miss any votes.

To get the full understanding of your proposal, I assume that someone will be away for a while, then he/she creates a fresh wallet, then on vote.jup.ag he/she delegates the voting rights (only voting rights and no unstake) to this fresh wallet, then he/she handover the wallet access to someone they trust to keep up with the votes.

Did I get this right?

Good proposal and can help address the problems highlighted.

Youre not wrong, but people may want to take some time off to detox from web3

Only downside is: is it really governance if someone is voting for you?

Thats another great point. A lot of people left their ledger at home for catstanbul. they would have had a little bit of trouble if votes happened live.

Yes basically. Its like you nominate a freinds wallet to do the vote for you ect

Thank you brother, ofc their is pros and cons. My only concern is : what if I dont have access to my phone when travelling? or perhaps even solana crashes and no one can vote

Genuinely great idea! They could even do something along the lines like the limit buy mechanism so when the voting opens, if you preset your vote, it votes for who you selected. And with voting if anyone makes a mistake, you can always change it before the voting ends if you really have to.

Did not want to knock you and there is definitely nothing wrong with making something better. Sometimes it’s good to also consider the needs of the few rather than the needs of the many. Lol got to stop watching Star Trek.

A great proposal in which i see where you are coming from.I work alot and have a long commute to work everyday and the weekends are the only time i get on my laptop. If it wasn’t for the JUP app,x and solflare i wouldnt be able to participate in any of it.My cellphone is my only means through the week of keeping up on the community.

Absolutely true. Missing ASR due to inactivity is does not encourage voter participation, even when eligible to vote.

That’s actually a great addition as well.

So we could almost use this feature as a safety net: Meaning in the occurrence, you don’t have access to vote, Then someone can do it for you.

If you do end up having access and you overestimated it, then you can still go and override the vote

Yeah, I completely understand. Life can be busy and maintaining our routine. 24/7 can be tough.

Delegating a different wallet is not a bad idea, but with virtually everyone having a mobile phone, with internet access. Actually voting is not that difficult, many time during this last ASR period I voted through my phone because I was traveling to busy with work.

I understand your concerns, but you’ve suggested measures we can implement to address those issues within our control. If we attempted to prevent every possible risk, no system would function. Achieving 90% effectiveness is sufficient because we simply cannot guard against unforeseen events or factors beyond our influence. Every proposed solution carries inherent risks, and ultimately, each individual must decide whether they are comfortable with those risks based on their personal needs.
